Celebrating Our 26th Season!

2010 Events

Hunt Family Fiddlers - Thursday, September 10, 2009

Your toes will be a-tapping along with the fiddling, singing and dancing of this award-winning family of Irish step dancers. They’ve wowed audiences around the world with their blend of Celtic, bluegrass, inspirational and popular tunes. With three held-over years at Busch Gardens Europe and four released albums to their credit, Mom, Dad and their seven kids will surely amaze you with their high-class performance when they kick-off our new season in September.

Amstel Quartet - Saturday, October 24, 2009

Put four saxophones, each with a different sound, in the hands of masterful players. Then add-in genius original arrangements of a wide range of musical genres, including chamber, theater, dance, mime, and cinema. Modern composers have praised their adaptations. Critics have shown their appreciation. And the audience at New York’s Carnegie Hall named them as one of their favorites. It’s high energy. So buckle your seat belts!

Canadian Tenors - Friday, January 8, 2010

Our first performance of New Bern’s Tercentennial year will feature this north of the border foursome that’s rapidly approaching greatness. They’re considered one of Canada’s national treasures. Featuring a mix of music from the theater, classics, operetta and world pop, you would naturally expect them to sing in English and French, but they also add Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, and even Maltese. With consistent demands for encores, the group is giving pop-opera a fresh new definition.

Rudolf Budginas - Thursday, February 18, 2010

Our Tercentennial celebration continues with a prodigy who debuted with the Lithuanian National Symphony at age nine. After training in Moscow, his solo concerts promptly brought him international fame. He moved to the U.S. in 1994. In his fascinating show he will demonstrate to us how classical music influences contemporary music. You’re sure to recognize passages in many of today’s hit songs. Listen for Billy Joel’s “Piano Man” in Liszt’s “Hungarian Rhapsody.”

War Bonds - Monday, March 15, 2010

Subtitled “The Songs and Letters of World War II”, this living history cabaret will take us on a tour through the war that redefined the world. We’ll compare personal letters and headline news from the front with the light-hearted popular music of the times here at home. Was it escapism for Rosie

the Riviter at a time when men dreamed of being home for Christmas and hoped their sweethearts wouldn’t have company under the apple tree until they returned.

All performances will be held in the Grover C. Fields Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m.

(The Public will be seated after 6:45 P.M. for series shows)

Nearly Neil Thursday, April 16, 2010

“Neil” will be here with The Solitary Band for a night that’s been called as good as a night with the real Neil Diamond. This Neil (really Bobby Bruce) has played for thousands of screaming fans in North America, Australia, New Zealand and Asia with his dead-on tribute. You’ll be amazed as “Neil” sings hit after Diamond hit that rivals the real thing. Close your eyes. Now listen - you could be sitting in a concert seat that cost you hundreds of dollars!
