More than a year ago…
This season’s program actually began more than a year ago. That’s when the Board of Directors of Craven Concerts began to plan. Through the years, we have established relationships with theatrical agents representing performers we know you’ll enjoy.
The agents tell us about the performers they will be representing. From that long list, we put together a season. Lots of factors are involved. We want something for everyone. So, variety is important.
We also have to consider when each performer will be in our area. For example, we can’t schedule an act for February, when the performer will be in California all month.
We look for performers who will give back to Craven County in the form of programs for the area’s school children. This season, we’ll sponsor three such outreach programs: an introduction to opera, featuring “Pinocchio,” for 1,500 students from Craven and Jones counties, a guitar program by Edgar Cruz for all G.C.Fields students, and Carolina Brass will provide an up front and personal program for all our middle and high school band members.
And of course, there are finances to consider. Our budget is developed from a combination of anticipated subscription sales and revenue from advertising in our play bill. The local businesses and professionals you see on our Program Pages play an important role in continuing our tradition of excellence. Be sure to tell them you saw their advertisement there.
You, too, are an important part of Craven Concerts. If you have comments about our concert, tell us. Members of the Craven Concerts Board attend our performances wearing name tags so you can identify them at intermission. And if you would like to play an even more important role, become a working member of the board. There’s always plenty to do.
Join us.
Many thanks to the “Arts Community Service Program” of the New Bern Woman’s Club for their generous donation to this season’s outreach programs.
